The edo state chapters of the all progressives congress, apc, and peoples democratic party, pdp, were at loggar head over governor godwin obaseki’s alleged recruitment of thugs and cultists for the september 19th poll.
The publicity secretary of the apc, chris azebamwan accused the governor of appointing thugs and cultists into his government as special assistants and senior special assistants to be deployed to cause mayhem during the governorship election.
While responding to the accusation of apc, the publicity secretary of the pdp in edo state, chris nehikhare said the apc was trying to bully the good people of the state because it is common knowledge that the apc is the party that is populated by known thugs and in many factions that exist within the party.
Addressing a press conference in benin city, azebamwan alleged that edo citizens first raised alarm months ago when the outgoing governor began to give out s.a and s.s.a appointments in numbers, and to the supprise of many, the appointess were said to be notorious cultists in various region of the state.
Meanwhile the pdp pulicity secretary, nehikhare said it is out of frustration and desperation for apc thin that edo state government is giving out appointments to thugs and cultists to disrupt the elections when edo people now call and hail the governor as the thug and godfather slayer.
He said efforts of the governor to get rid of bad elements and godfatherism in edo state led to the protracted battle of wits that led to the fragmentation of the party into small bits and the governor leaving the prostrate party to the comfort of the umbrella.
Ondo state governor, mr rotimi akeredolu has emerged the candidate of the all progressives congress for the october 10 governorship election in the state.
In the result declared around 12:25am and monitored, akeredolu won in all the local government areas of the state, defeating other seven contestants.
In the result, akeredolu polled 2,458 votes, while chief olusola oke came second with 262 votes and mr isaac kekemeke followed in the third positionafter polling 19 votes.
The primary of the apc was conducted with over 2,500 delegates from the 18 local government areas of the state who converged on the international event centre, alagbaka, akure, the state capital, to cast their votes.
It should be noted that no fewer than 8 out of 11 aspirants finally contested for the ticket of the party after three aspirants stepped down for governor rotimi akeredolu.
They were akeredolu, chief olusola oke, dr segun abraham, mr olaide adelami and mr bukola adetula.
Others were mrs jumoke anifowose, mr sola iji, mr isaac kekemeke, jimi odimayo, mr nathaniel adojutelegan and mr awodeyi akinsehinwa.
Earlier, the chairman of the apc primary committee and governor of kogi state, mr yahaya bello, said the exercise would be free, fair and transparent and indeed it was as he declared the incumbent governor, mr akeredolu the winner of the primary.

Should the minister fail to publish the names, the speaker said the house will employ the full wrath of the law to ensure he does so.
The ultimatum was issued during plenary today, a day after the minister claimed that most of the contracts awarded by the nddc were awarded to lawmakers.
Reports say brazil is considering advanced clinical testing of a chinese-made vaccine against the new coronavirus, issuing the first doses to around 900 volunteers that will take effects from today.
The coronavirus vaccine, developed by private chinese pharmaceutical firm, sinovac is the third in the world to enter phase 3 trials or large-scale testing on humans which is the last step before regulatory approval.

Sao polo governor, joao doria reaffirmed that coronavac is one of the vaccines that have advanced utmost in testing globally and will begin at the clinical hospital of sao paulo.
He said initial results were expected within 90 days.
Sinovac is partnering with a brazilian public health research centre, the butantan institute, on the trials.
According to officials, if the vaccine proves safe and effective, the institute will have the right to produce 120 million doses under the deal.

Its death toll surpassed 80,000 on monday and it has registered 2.1 million infections.
